PROCTORVILLE, OH (WOWK) -- A lane on the East Huntington Bridge connecting Huntington and Proctorville caused massive delays for commuters Monday.
The bridge lane is closed so that contractors can inspect the suspension cables on the bridge.
One man told 13 News that his wife was delayed by two hours on her morning commute while another said that he already set his alarm to be 30 minutes early in order to circumvent the delay.
"And it's just going to be really inconvenient for them to get to work whenever they have to sit in traffic," said Caleb Drawdy, a Proctorville resident. "Not only from right here on the ramp, but going down Route 7 and 775 and everything."
According to the West Virginia Department of Transportation, the project should be completed in late November. Until then, the DOT encourages drivers to use alternative routes.
The DOT also said that both lanes will be temporarily re-opened during Marshall University home games.
