SOUTH POINT, OH (WOWK) — Students from South Point Local Schools will be missing the first few days of the school week after a local school faced a stabbing incident more than a week ago.
South Point Local Schools Superintendent Chris Mathes said in a release on the South Point Local School District Facebook page that there will be no school for students on Monday, Nov. 4, and Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Monday will instead be used for parent-teacher conferences and "staff professional development," while Tuesday will see the school closed for Election Day, the release said.
When students return on Wednesday, Nov. 6, there will be counselors available in each building as well as a police presence.
"Each building will also have police officers on site during the school day for the entire week and plans are in place to continue to provide a police officer at each building for the remainder of the school year," Superintendent Mathes said.
The district will also be holding “Extreme Blue and Gold” Day on Wednesday in honor of South Point Elementary School Principal Bill Christian, who was injured in a stabbing incident that occurred at the school more than a week ago.
43-year-old Joshua Collins, who is accused of stabbing Principal Christian, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges in Lawrence County on Friday.
